We often think of Paul’s letters as theological treatises. But they really are letters, personal correspondence to people he cares about. Perhaps Romans seems all the more impersonal. It’s theology is more lofty and Paul himself says he has never been to Rome. Yet, Romans finishes with an entire chapter of personal greetings. What do we make of that? My theme for this week is in opposition to the tired, phrase, “Don’t take it personally”. I think we do read chapter 16 personally as well in the book of Romans and in fact the whole Bible. We’ll look at Romans 16 as a help to take all of God’s word as a personal message to us.
