“Joy to the World”
This week “Joy to the World” will be our theme carol. It certainly includes the basic Christian message, “I bring you good news of great joy”. The lyrics were based on Psalm 98 and the song was never expressly intended to be a Christmas Carol. However, the soaring music has made it so and I think it expresses what Isaac Watts hoped for with this new song (written in the early 1700s). Joy is not confined to Christmas; rather Christmas can cause us to have joy every day.
